That's why some growers choose to condition their hay. Research has shown conditioning decreases the drying time of large-stemmed plants resulting in less leaf and nutrient loss. And because conditioning causes the stems to dry at nearly the same rate as the leaves, you'll be able to bale even sooner. While you don't necessarily have to condition your hay, it can significantly help drydown in wetter climates.
